Scripture Union Daily Guide 13 October 2025 Outline
When you are tempted to think that God has forgotten you, Job faced a tragedy of unthinkable proportions. He lost his children, wealth, and health. His close friends misread the situation and came to him with unhelpful and hurtful comments. The discussions between him and his friends Eliphaz (Job 4, Job 15, Job 22), Zophar (Job 11 and Job 20) and Bildad (Job 8, Job 18 and Job 25) illustrate how we can easily make baseless assumptions. From Job 29:1-6, we have glimpses of Job’s life before tragedy struck. We see a life marked by integrity and contentment in the presence of God.
Is there anything wrong with this “longing look” into the good old days? Not really. The evidence of his godly influence in society is seen in Job 29:7-17. Seek out and note at least 10 of these influences. Job 29:18-25 provide further evidence of the integrity of Job and the beautiful testimony he bore which made him to be treated with honour everywhere he went in the past. With the benefit of hindsight, we know that God was present all the time and had plans for good for Job.
